Classroom Champions: Rosebud-Lott's Clara Coker
Rosebud-Lott senior Clara Coker strives for excellence.
"I hold the same standard that I do in class, on the court," Coker said. "If I do well in class, I do well on the court. That's my mentality."
She's done well for herself in both. Clara ranks number one in her class at Rosebud-Lott and is also a five-sport athlete.
She has taken home several honors in volleyball, basketball and track. In addition to those sports, she plays softball, and has reached the state competition in powerlifting every year of high school.
Somehow, this multi-talented student also finds the time to participate in 4-H and FFA, which are things she takes to heart because of her love of animals.
Her future plans include attending Texas A&M and becoming at veterinarian.
"I’ve always grown up around animals and always had a love for animals and it's just always been my dream to be a vet and stay local and come back here," Coker said.
She is well on her way, but in the meantime, she is focused on getting better on the court and maintaining her excellence in the classroom, two things her coach sees from Clara every day.
"She’s just a powerhouse," Rosebud-Lott coach Amanda Spencer said. "She got co-MVP in volleyball. She got MVP in basketball. She goes to regionals in track. Everything that kid touches is successful.
"When she does have her games and she’s off, (her teammates) pick her up, and so she's not that kid that's going to pout. She just drives."
