Classroom Champions: University's Lizbeth Duarte

Lizbeth Duarte has always known hard work

“Well my mom she used to have three jobs, and my dad had two,” said Lizbeth. “…and currently my mom has two so she can take care of us a little more.”

That's why this University High School senior wants to continue to work hard. To not just improve her life, but the lives of others as well.

“Even if I don't reach my highest potential, I just want to do something that makes me happy which is helping people,” said Lizbeth. “Helping my community.”

Lizbeth ranks 30th in her class at University, and plans to go McLennan Community College to major in criminal justice.

“Many children don’t have opportunities, and if become a social worker I can help them get into good families,” said Lizbeth.

Not only does Lizbeth work hard in class, she gives her all on the field as well. Lizbeth lettered in soccer, cross country and track in her time at University.

“She’s always upbeat,” said Mike Chapman, University’s head soccer coach. “She’s always very positive. Always has a smile on her face. Always willing to do anything you ask her to do. She’s always willing to do it plus more.”
