Classroom Champions: Valley Mills' Ragain Hyde

VALLEY MILLS, Texas (KWTX) In addition to being a four-sport athlete, Valley Mills senior Ragain Hyde is in National Honor Society, student council, theater and band.

"When I'm not doing anything, I'm bored, so it keeps me doing something all the time," Hyde said.

But for this student athlete, being a student has always come first. Ragain is currently ranked fourth in her class at Valley Mills and holds a 3.92 GPA.

"I've always told myself to push each time," Hyde said. "I've always had a sense of drive to have good grades, and to push myself in sports and all of my activities."

Steve Hogan has coached Ragain for four years and he has seen that drive and passion.

"Her ability to read, to make plays sometimes even surprises me, some of the plays that she makes," Hogan said. "In the classroom, (she's) just a very dedicated student as much as she is on the floor, wants to do everything right, wants to do everything perfect.

"My favorite part about coaching her is she always shows up with a smile and she's ready to go. You can always count on her to be there and when it's time to go, when it's game time, her head's going to be there and she's going to be ready to perform."
