WACO, Texas (KWTX) Former Baylor head football coach Art Briles has hit the ground running as a head football coach in Florence, Italy, where one of his former Baylor players has joined him.

Running back Silas Nacita signed with the Estra Guelfi Firenze team on Monday.

Nacita posted the news on Twitter on Monday along with two photos, one with Briles in Italy and another alongside the coach on the field at McLane Stadium.

“Almost four years ago, I was released from my college team and I thought that was the last time I would ever play for my coach…and here we are. Crazy”

Nacita, a Bakersfield, Calif., native, was a Baylor walk-on who rose to popularity after fans learned he was homeless as a teenager and that joining the team was an effort to fulfill a lifelong dream.

He played for Baylor in 2014 and 2015, but then was dismissed from the team for accepting proper benefits.

He later explained that he was ruled ineligible by the NCAA because he accepted an offer from a close family friend to provide a place for him to live when he could not afford to pay for it himself as a non-scholarship player.

Nacita spent the next three seasons playing in the German Football League.

Nacita has a YouTube channel with more than 184,000 subscribers.
