WACO, Texas (KWTX) Former Baylor wide receiver Jalen Hurd wasted little time making sure his new team made the right decision selecting him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Hurd made three catches for 31 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL preseason debut for the San Francisco 49ers against the Dallas Cowboys Saturday night.
With the Cowboys leading 6-0 in the second quarter, the 49ers were set up in the red zone. San Francisco quarterback Nick Mullens executed a play-action fake, scrambled to his right and completed a pass to Hurd on a crossing route.
The 6-foot-4, 227-pound receiver then initiated contact just shy of the goal line before using more of his strength to score the first touchdown.
Hurd tallied his second touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to give the 49ers a 14-9 lead. Facing third and goal, 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard lobbed a pass to his left to Hurd, who used his height to pull in a 4-yard score over Cowboys cornerback Tyvis Powell.
The 49ers defeated the Cowboys 17-9.
