WACO, Texas (KWTX) Baylor (6-3-3, 2-1) became the first Big 12 team to beat West Virginia (6-4-1, 1-1) twice in conference play since the Mountaineers joined the league in 2012 as the Bears won 4-2 Thursday night in Waco.
After entering halftime knotted in a scoreless tie, Baylor struck first with a goal in the 50th minute. Ally Henderson lined up a corner kick which she kicked short to Elizabeth Kooiman who, from 20 yards out, rocketed a goal to the upper left corner of the net. It marked the freshman forward’s first-career goal. It also gave Henderson an assist in four straight games, a streak that ties for second in the program record books.
An own goal in the 57th minute tied things up, but the score didn’t stay even for long.
Kooiman was back for more as she stole the ball on a run up the middle and booted a goal past Rylee Foster to give the Bears back the lead.
Less than two minutes later, it was Raegan Padgett’s turn to join the scoresheet with her third goal of the season. Sarah Norman had a free kick in the attacking third that Padgett finished off in front of the goal.
Kooiman topped off the scoring for the Bears in the 79th minute. Marissa Gray launched the ball over the top to Padgett, whose cross was originally aimed for Taylor Moon but fell at the feet of Kooiman, who took it from there.
West Virginia got a late goal in the 82nd minute by Lizzie Mayfield.
Baylor held a 17-10 advantage in shots with 12 of them on goal. Every shot Kooiman took went in.
