ABILENE, Texas (KWTX) The Midway All Stars 10U division baseball team and Midway 10U division softball team both clinched Texas West State Championship titles Tuesday in Abilene.
And the Midway 9-11 softball team advanced to the Texas West Championship game, as well Tuesday.
The girls defeated Eagle Pass 5-4 Tuesday afternoon to win the title.
Earlier Tuesday the boys claimed the title with a 4-2 win over Northside Suburban Little League of San Antonio in a game which went into an extra inning.
Midway led throughout the game until Northside scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game at 2-2 and forcing the game into an extra inning.
In the seventh, Midway player Griffin Polnick and Jimmy White singled to start the inning. Russel Harwell walked with Kolt Russell driving in the go-ahead run with a fielder’s choice ground ball to third base, scoring Polnick.
Ryan Yocham then got an infield single to drive in Jimmy White for the fourth run.
The other runs in the game were scored by players Sawyer Hillman and Brooks Jurgensen.
This is the first win of its kind for Midway Little League in at least a decade.
The state championship winning team included Sawyer Hillman, Hudsen Morris, Griffin Polnick, Jimmy White, Russell Harwell, Ryan Yocham, Kolt Russell, Fabien Martinez, Nolan Wright, Brooks Jurgensen, Clark Svoboda, Aiden Locke, and Cooper Linthicum.
The team is coached by Michael Hillman, Josh Jurgensen, Benjie Polnick and Sandy Morris.
There is no national tournament for little league until 12.
