KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Registration fees will be refunded to 1,200 players who signed up for local youth league baseball and softball programs after Killeen and Harker Heights Parks and Recreation officials decided to cancel the 2020 season.
The cancellation was announced Wednesday because of limits on the size of gatherings and the continued threat of a new surge of COVID-19
“Killeen and Harker Heights agree that it is in the best interest of the community to cancel this year’s season,” officials said in a press release Wednesday.
“Cancellation of youth softball and baseball was not a decision made easily. The current COVID-19 situation does not allow for the safe gathering of teams for practices and games, and the health and safety of participants must be prioritized,” officials say.
Refunds will be mailed to addresses used to register within the next four to six weeks.
Residents whose addresses have changed should contact Killeen Parks and Recreation at (254) 501-6390 or Harker Heights Parks and Recreation at (254) 953-5657.
