MCC's baseball season ends with Region V tournament championship loss

SAN ANGELO, Texas The MCC baseball team lost to New Mexico 14-11 Monday night to finish their season just short of a trip to the Juco World Series.

MCC had to rally earlier in the day just to get to the championship round. The Highlanders trailed Odessa for most of the elimination game earlier in the day. A pair of runs late in the game gave MCC a 5-4 win and that put the Highlanders into the championship round against New Mexico.

The Highlanders needed two wins over New Mexico to advance to the Juco World Series. First they would need a win Monday night. Instead, that's where MCC's season came to an end. MCC again fell behind early and at one point late in the game trailed by as much as a 13-6 margin. But the Highlanders rallied to score 5 8th inning runs and get back into the ballgame at 13-11.

New Mexico answered with a run in the bottom of the 8th to push their lead back to 3 over MCC. The Highlanders then failed to score in the 9th and their season came to an end with the 14-11 loss.
