Mart dominates Gruver to win second straight state championship

ARLINGTON, Texas The Mart Panthers were dominant in their 76-33 victory over Gruver Wednesday night as they won a second straight 2A state championship in Arlington.

This Mart team becomes the first to win back to back state championships in program history. The Panthers claim their 7th state title by running over and through the Gruver defense in a first half that was near total domination.

Mart scored touchdowns on four of their first seven offensive plays. Tyrek Horne had a record setting night rushing for well over 200 yards and a Texas state title game record 7 touchdowns in the win. Horne was the offensive MVP after dominating in the run game.

Roddrell Freeman and Shatydrick Bailey were also impressive running the football and finding the end zone for the Panthers as they built a 63-12 halftime lead.

Mart cruised through the second half earning the 70-33 win when the dust settled.
