MCGREGOR, Texas (KWTX) The McGregor ISD announced a new athletic director and head coach Friday.

Mike Shields, a Reicher Catholic High School graduate, will begin the job next Tuesday, the district said in a press release Friday.

Shields, who earned a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree from Baylor University, has 17 years of experience as an athletic director and head coach.

His overall record is 123-72 and his playoff record is 14-12.

He started his career at Reicher in 1996 and went on to coach in Italy and Hillsboro before returning to Italy as athletic director and head coach in 2001.

He also served as head coach at Red Oak High School and Terrell High School.

He replaces Judd Thrash, who left the district earlier this year after the McGregor School Board approved a voluntary separation agreement on Feb. 22.
