McLennan baseball forfeits four games, now #2 seed in Region V tournament

WACO, Texas (KWTX) The McLennan baseball team will now be the second seed heading into the NJCAA Region V Division I tournament. According to head coach Mitch Thompson, the team was forced to forfeit four conference games due to a player on the Highlanders dropping a class without telling the coaching staff. The player was then not considered a full time student, and ineligible to play.

Thompson says the team found out that the player dropped the class and self reported the incident to the NJCAA on Wednesday (5/8). The NJCAA determined the highlanders would have to forfeit the games in which the student athlete played, thus making Grayson College the conference champions and the number one overall seed. The Highlanders were 3-1 in the games the student athlete played.

MCC will now have to face Howard in the first round of the tournament at 10 a.m. on Friday.
