Mexia's Beachum hosts fifth annual camp

Mexia grad and current New York Jet Kelvin Beachum was back in Limestone County this weekend.

For the fifth year in a row, the NFL offensive lineman hosted his community football camp at Mexia High School. The goal of the camp is to develop and improve their football skills, sportsmanship and teamwork while building confidence both on-and-off the field.

500 kids from grades 1 through 12 were in attendance, with the younger kids participating in the morning, while the older ones came in the afternoon.

The camp was free for all those who attended, and each camper was provided lunch, a t-shirt and and autographed item.

For Beachum, it's the perfect chance to give back to the town he grew up in.

"This is my home. When I come home everyone calls me 'Little Kelvin' because that's who I am," said Beachum. "So this is special, to come back and get to continue to give back to the community. These people know that I'm the same little Kelvin that they saw growing up playing pee wee football."
