Moody ISD hosts 13th annual Thanksgiving luncheon
Smiling faces and full stomachs were abundant at Moody Elementary Sunday, as Moody ISD held their annual thanksgiving luncheon for area residents.
“It’s our way of saying thank you to the community, the tax payers, and the parents,” said Moody Superintendent, Gary Martel.
Martel says the district has been hosting this luncheon for 13 years as a way of giving back. Last year the luncheon fed over 750 people in the Moody community including 300 home bound residents.
“We hope they leave here feeling good that the district cares about them, and that they can count on us,” said Martel.
Several student organizations were involved as well, helping deliver meals and pass out food. mike alton has taught for the district for 36 years and he says he is proud of his students that volunteered to help because he knows what a warm meal can do for person during the holidays.
“We've had several families that we know that have come up, and they have told us that this is the only thanksgiving (they) really have,” said Alton. “It’s free and it means a lot to them”
