WACO, Texas (Baylor Athletics) No. 3 Baylor volleyball (22-1, 12-1 Big 12) used a career double-double from junior Yossiana Pressley and a record crowd of 7,357 fans to upend top-ranked Texas (19-3, 13-1 Big 12) Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 15-9.
Pressley matched a season-high 31 kills and posted a career-best 24 digs to lead the way, followed by junior Hannah Lockin’s 11th double-double with 53 assists and 11 digs.
Defensively, freshman Kara McGhee posted a team-high six blocks while senior Tara Wulf totaled 22 digs in the win.
Texas held an early 9-7 lead in set one, but the Bears quickly went on a 5-0 run to take the 12-9 lead off a Pressley kill. Texas tied it up at 20-20, but Pressley’s 10 kills proved to be too much as the Bears took the opener, 25-23.
Baylor started slow in the second set and called timeout after UT took a 12-8 lead. The Bears clawed their way back and went up 23-20 after a Lockin and McGhee block. Lockin put down a kill for the 24-22 lead, and a Texas service error gave BU the 2-0 advantage with another 25-23 win.
BU’s offense stalled in the third set, hitting .091 for 11 kills with eight errors. The Longhorns led by as many as seven en route to the 25-21 win.
A Texas kill gave the Longhorns a 12-8 lead in the fourth set, but BU used a kill from senior Gia Milana to lead 19-18. Two straight kills from Marieke van der Mark gave the Bears a 22-20 lead, but the Longhorns forced a fifth set with a 5-1 run for the 25-23 win.
In the fifth set, the Bears started hot with 3-0 and 8-4 leads. BU used a Milana kill to go up 13-7, and a UT service error ended the match for the Baylor win, 15-9.
BU will close out its Big 12 road slate with matches at Kansas State on Saturday and West Virginia on Tuesday. Baylor’s match against the Wildcats begins at 3 p.m. CT and will be televised on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
