ROBINSON, Texas The Robinson softball team used timely hitting to beat rival Lorena Friday night and take over sole possession of first place in the district.
Robinson started the scoring in the third inning on a pair of ground ball outs that led to runs. That 2-0 lead was quickly cut in half by Lorena who scored on a bases loaded infield single in the top of the 4th.
Robinson got out of the jam one batter later when Tatum Stephens made a diving stop and throw to end the inning.
Robinson added more runs in the bottom of the 4th and eventually pulled away for a 7-3 win. The victory puts Robinson alone at the top of the district standings and a game ahead of Lorena.
