UMHB defeats Hardin-Simmons again to advance to second round
The UMHB defense forced four interceptions, including Reggie Cole's 88-yard return for a touchdown, in the Crusaders' 27-6 win over the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys Saturday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
UMHB has posted 11 wins without a loss this season and has defeated HSU in all five of their postseason meetings.
Markeith Miller rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown, which set an American Southwest Conference record for career TDs (58) and capped off the Crusaders' 9-play, 65-yard drive to begin the game.
Cole's interception gave the Cru a 14-0 advantage before Hardin-Simmons tacked on their first points of the game in the second quarter.
The Cru tallied just 237 yards of total offense, but a chunk of it came on a 58-yard touchdown pass from Jase Hammack to Aaron Sims with less than a minute remaining in the first half.
UMHB will face Berry (Ga.) Sat., Nov. 24, in the second round at a site to be announced.
