BELTON, Texas The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s soccer team edged Hardin-Simmons University 1-0 Monday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 11-3-1 on the season and 7-2-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowboys fell to 4-9-2 overall and 4-5-1 in league play.
The first half played scoreless with UMHB outshooting the Cowboys 3-0. Patrick Roach finally broke the drought in the 86th minute, heading in a corner kick from Rolando Nieto to secure the 1-0 win for the Cru.
Roach led the Cru with three shots, putting two on goal. UMHB totaled seven shots in the contest and allowed the Cowboys just one shot in the match. Travis Aday earned the win for UMHB, playing the full 90 minutes with one save and the shutout. Trent Ivy took the loss for Hardin-Simmons, allowing one goal with three saves.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 27th in a 3:30 p.m. match at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
