UMHB remains #2 in national poll

WACO, Texas The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team is ranked #2 in the country in the two major NCAA Division III Top 25 Polls for the fifth consecutive week this week. The Cru (6-0, 5-0 American Southwest Conference) is coming off a 55-0 victory over Howard Payne University last Friday.

The Cru is ranked #2 in the country in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll again this week. The Cru received 10 first-place votes and 1,234 total points from the AFCA. Defending national champion Mount Union holds down the top spot again with 41 first-place votes and 1,265 total points. Brockport (NY), Wisconsin-Whitewater and St. John’s (MN) round out the top five in that poll. Hardin-Simmons University held steady at #11 in the AFCA poll with 733 points. The Cowboys fell to UMHB 26-0 two weeks ago. Texas Lutheran received votes worth two points to give the ASC three programs receiving mention in this week’s poll.

“We will tell our kids the same thing this week that we’ve told them all season,” Cru Head Coach Pete Fredenburg said. “It doesn’t matter who is lining up across from us, we have to focus on being a better football team this week than we were last week. I think we are making progress in that area.”

UMHB also held on to the #2 spot in this week’s D3football.com Top 25 Poll. The Cru took six first-place votes and 606 total points. Mount Union is #1 in that ranking with 19 first-place votes and 619 total points. Brockport (NY) comes in at #3, Frostburg (MD) State is ranked fourth and St. John’s (MN) rounds out the top five. Hardin-Simmons held steady at #9 in the D3football.com poll again this week.

The Cru will now hit the road again to face Belhaven University in a 12:00 PM kickoff at the Belhaven Bowl in Jackson, Mississippi this Saturday. The Blazers are 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the ASC on the season.
