UMHB remains 2nd in national poll

WACO, Texas The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team is ranked second in the country in the two major NCAA Division III Top 25 Polls for the eighth consecutive week this week. The Cru (9-0, 8-0 American Southwest Conference) is coming off a dominating 80-7 win over Louisiana College last Saturday.

The Cru is again ranked #2 in the country in the eighth American Football Coaches Association Top 25 Poll of the 2018 season. The Cru received 11 first-place votes and 1,235 total points from the AFCA. Defending national champion Mount Union maintains its grip on the #1 spot with 40 first-place votes and 1,264 total points. Brockport (NY) is ranked third, Wisconsin-Whitewater is #4 and St. John’s (MN) rounds out the top five. UMHB’s ASC rival Hardin-Simmons University held steady at #8 with 907 total points. Texas Lutheran University totaled votes worth seven points to give the ASC three programs receiving mention in this week’s poll.

“A big part of the process of becoming the kind of team we want to be is to play really well and play with a lot of confidence,” Cru Head Coach Pete Fredenburg said. “I think we are doing that right now. We still have work to do and I think our players are really focused on getting better each week.”

UMHB also held on to the #2 spot in this week’s D3football.com Top 25 Poll. The Cru took five first-place votes and 605 total points. Mount Union claimed 20 first-place votes and 619 total points for the top spot. D3football.com has Brockport at #3, St. John’s ranked fourth and Wisconsin-Whitewater ranked fifth. Hardin-Simmons comes in at #7 in that ranking.

The Cru will close out the regular season with a 2 pm road game against East Texas Baptist (6-3, 6-2 ASC) this Saturday in Marshall. UMHB can clinch an outright ASC Championship with a victory over the Tigers.
