SHERMAN, Texas The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a 3-2 win over Austin College Tuesday evening in Sherman. The Cru improved to 20-2 with the win while the Roos fell to 13-12.
UMHB took the first two sets 25-11, 25-15 before falling 25-21 in the third. The Roos took the fourth set 25-20 to even the match at two sets before UMHB pulled away with a 15-7 third-set win to seal the match. Jenna Gillean and Corinne Novak led the Cru with 14 kills each while Hope Hoelscher added 12 and Miranda Klein had 11. UMHB hit .282 in the match with 61 kills on 149 total attacks. Cory Jo Martin anchored UMHB’s offense with 48 assists while Miranda Klein added seven. Defensively, Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 18 digs while Novak added 14. Hoelscher led the Cru’s defensive efforts at the net, going up for nine blocks. UMHB totaled eight service aces, 78 digs and 13 team blocks. The Roos hit .150 in the match with 59 digs and 12 blocks.
UMHB returns to action Friday, October 19th in a 3 p.m. match at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
