WACO, Texas (KWTX) Saturday at D1 Sports in Waco, over 130 special needs athletes from No Limitations Waco participated in the fourth Super Bowl at D1.
“I saw them online playing football in a little gym and I said, ‘I think we can do a little bit better’”, said Kevin Engelbrecht, the owner of D1. “So we invited them. And when they came, their eyes lit up and I knew this was the only home they needed for football.”
With crowds of family and friends cheering them on, touchdowns were scored, and smiles were abundant.
“It's not an athletic program,” said Coleen Heaton, Director of No Limitations. “It's not soccer football, basketball, and cheer. It's telling these individuals and their families, there are no limitations to the lives they can lead. And giving them a little bit of joy, a little bit of happiness away from doctors’ appointments. And being told not your child can't or your child won't. They come in here and we say yes you can and say yes you can. And yes you will. And they do.”
At the end of the event every athlete walked away with a medal and their very own Super Bowl ring.
