TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) The American Red Cross was assisting five Temple residents displaced by a weekend fire that gutted their house.

The fire was reported just after 2 a.m. Sunday at 715 North 15th St.

Flames were coming from the corner of the one-story brick home when the first crews arrived.

Firefighters were told that someone might still be inside and encountered heavy smoke as they entered the rear of the home to conduct a search.

Primary and secondary searches confirmed no one was inside, however.

No one was hurt, but the house is considered a total loss.

The fire was under control within about an hour.

The cause is under investigation.
