Belton: Arrest made in New Year’s Day shooting that sent teen to hospital

BELTON, Texas (KWTX) Ricardo Mendoza, 23, of Belton, was in the Williamson County Jail Monday after his arrest on warrants stemming from a New Year’s Day shooting in Belton that sent a teenager to a local hospital.

He’s held in lieu of bonds totaling $75,000 charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct.

The 19-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, was shot twice at around 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 in the 500 block of East 3rd Avenue.

He was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple where he’s in stable condition.

Neighbors reported hearing gunfire in the area.
