FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) Residents of Fort Hood now have the chance to take their families outside without having to worry about social distancing.

Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area (BLORA) is offering free lake access to military families on Fort Hood.

Military or Department of Defense ID is required for access.

The grounds are offering free access to boating, fishing, and hike and bike trails every day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The playgrounds and camp areas are still closed.

MWR Chief of Community for Recreation Brandi Crist says it's important to give military families something safe and fun to do.

"It's opened up basically so the Fort Hood community has a safe environment to get outside of their house," she said.

"We want to make sure they can socially distance themselves from one another but still be outside."

Crist says there's no timeline for when Fort Hood will decide to fully reopen BLORA.
