BELL COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) A new piece of equipment is helping Bell County constables keep track of what their deputies are up to when they’re out on calls.

Video of deputy constables serving citations or evictions are caught on their new Axon body cameras, the purchase of which Bell County Commissioners approved.

“We appreciate what they do for us, the county commissioners; I know they have a hard job,” Bell County Pct. 3 Constable Thomas Prado said.

The video automatically is uploaded to a system to allow Prado and his team to play it back and review it.

“Every day we use these and if we didn’t have these it would be harder to prosecute anybody if they did something wrong. It would be hard without these now,” Prado said.

While safety is their number one priority and the technology is helping them.

They still put pen to paper to make sure everything is documented.

“If we ever have a complaint, we can review it. We haven’t had any complaints because everyone knows we have cameras” he said.

The constable’s staff of 5 have two body cameras, apiece.
