BELTON, Texas (KWTX) The Bell County jail has passed its state inspection for the 32nd consecutive year and is one of the only county jails in Texas to have chalked up such a record.

Sheriff Eddy Lange says a Texas Jail Commission inspector recently spent four days checking out the county’s detention facilities.

He reviewed procedures, written orders and inmate complaints, talked to inmates, and tested the jail's response to emergencies.

Lange says he put them through every possible scenario and tested their reaction.

He says residents of Bell County should be proud of the work happening at the jail, but doesn’t want all the credit.

“This goes back to the prior sheriff, Dan Smith,” Lange said.

“Let's make sure him and all of his jail administrators throughout the years get credit for that too because they got it started and we just hope to continue that philosophy and make it 33."

The inspector found a few corrections the jail needed to make, all of which were fixed before he left.
