BELTON, Texas (KWTX) A Belton New Tech freshman was honored Thursday by the City of Temple and the Belton ISD for helping an injured man.
Marissa Todd was walking home from school last month when she saw a man who had fallen in the rain outside of his home and was bleeding.
She helped the man get up and back inside.
The man ended up spending more than a week in the hospital.
The man’s family was so grateful they let their Temple City Council representative, Michael Pilkington, and the Belton ISD know about Marissa’s selfless act.
“I’m very proud that especially this young of a person would have stepped up and not given a thought to her own comfort,” said Pilkington.
For that, Marissa was honored with the City of Temple’s, Good Citizen award.
“She definitely exemplified helping others in giving, sacrificing herself when no one else was looking,” said Belton Tech High principal, Ben Smith.
The man, who asked to remain anonymous, is still recovering from injuries sustained in the fall.
