BELTON, Texas (KWTX) Belton high school is getting a facelift, as crews start work this month on a new orchestra hall.
Construction is underway outside the front gates of the school to re-route traffic and allow for a new look at the entrance of the school.
Both are part of a schematic design for fine arts additions approved by the school's board of trustees in June.
It includes the addition of 3,200 square feet for a dedicated orchestra rehearsal hall, as well as sectional and practice rooms.
It also includes renovations to 1,200 square feet of existing band hall, instructor office space and the band music library.
The new orchestra hall was needed because its previous location is being transformed into a new middle school, as the district expands and also adds Lake Belton High School in 2020.
"Our orchestra program has really grown over the last couple of years. I remember when I was an assistant principal at Lake Belton middle school and it was just a few students in a classroom to now we have over 250 kids in the program and they've done an exceptional job,” Principal, Ben Smith said.
“They win awards and they've become a big piece of our school and our community."
The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2020.
