TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) An organization meant to provide support to loved ones of veterans and active duty members of the military is about to open its first chapter in the state in Central Texas.
Operation Family Caregiver is opening it's first chapter in the state in Central Texas.
Operation Family Caregiver will be based in Temple working with the VA to counsel caregivers and provide them resources and strategies to handle the challenges they're facing.
Patricia Mix is a new coach for the organization.
Her husband currently serves in the Army and she understands what life is like for military families, but she says the specific challenges are different for each caregiver.
When she meets with someone for the first time, she works to find out exactly what their circumstances are then work on a game plan.
In the case of Dee Blascyk, she needed help providing caregiver support to her husband, a Navy veteran dealing with physical injuries, PTSD, and traumatic brain injury.
Operation Caregiver provided her with help and now she says she has learned to take care of herself, in order to better provide help to her husband.
