Central Texas Heroes: Tyler Arp

Lt. Tyler Arp of McGregor

MCGREGOR, Texas (KWTX) A McGregor native has been named 2018 Military Instructor of the Year in the Naval Reserves Officer Training category.

Lt. Tyler A. Arp worked with Naval Education and Training Command in Pensacola, Florida.

The 2007 McGregor High Graduate is an associate professor of Naval Science and Submarine Officer-Nuclear Programs coordinator at the University of Texas in Austin.

He was honored December 5 at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola.

Lt. Arp spent hours of one-on-one time in rigorous instruction with students in the nuclear power program helping to meet or exceed the program's goals.

He received a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for his accomplishments.

Lt. Arp said, "I greatly enjoy the opportunity to instruct future officers at the University of Texas at Austin NROTC program. They are an impressive group of individuals who will go on to serve as naval officers. I hope to contribute to their development so that they are prepared for the challenges of leadership in our Navy."

Arp is the son of Terry and Darlene Arp of McGregor.
