TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Corden Fidler, 4, who survived a shooting on Dec. 20 in Temple that left his mother and grandmother dead, has been released from McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple.

The boy and his mother, Shelly Splittgerber, 36, were gunned down by Splittgerber’s estranged husband, Matthew Splittgerber, early on Dec. 20 as they left their home across from Lamar Middle School in Temple.

Shelly Splittgerber died at the scene.

Matthew Splittgerber then shot and killed the boy’s grandmother, Sherry Gray, 64, inside the home before taking his own life.

The boy, who was shot at least four times, once in the head, was taken to McLane Children’s Hospital.

Matthew Splittgerber had parked down the street from the house and evidently ambushed the boy and his mother before entering the home, the sources said.

He opened fire as a school bus was pulling up to the house, law enforcement sources said.

No other children were aboard, the sources said.
