Central Texas boy, 6, on life support after near-drowning dies

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) A 6-year-old Central Texas boy who was placed on on life support after a near-drowning died early Friday police said.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at around 2:45 a.m. Friday at McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple.

Officers responded to “a cardiac call” at around 8:40 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of West Hallmark Avenue and found the boy near a swimming pool, Killeen police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said.

Officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived, she said.

The boy was taken to AdventHealth Central Texas in Killeen and then was transferred to McLane Children’s Hospital in critical condition, she said.

Killeen police, after several requests for information, said.

Counselors were available to classmates on Thursday.

KISD officials were urging parents Wednesday to review water safety with their children as summer approaches.
