Belton: Man indicted in New Year’s shooting that left teen hurt

BELTON, Texas (KWTX) Ricardo Mendoza, 23, of Belton, was named in a two-count indictment Wednesday charging aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct/discharge of a firearm stemming from a New Year’s Day shooting in Belton that sent a teenager to a local hospital.

The 19-year-old victim, whose name was released, was shot twice at around 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 in the 500 block of East 3rd Avenue.

He was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple in stable condition.

Neighbors reported hearing gunfire in the area.

Mendoza was booked into the Williamson County Jail on Jan. 12 and was released the next day after a posting a $75,000 bond, according to online records.
