The officer responded to a loud noise complaint at around 1:35 a.m. in the area of McNeal Street and East League Street, Burnet Police Chief Paul Nelson Paul Nelson said.

As the officer approached a car moments after arriving at the scene, the driver of the vehicle began to back up toward him and didn’t respond to a command to stop.

The officer fired after the car ran over his foot, Nelson said.

The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
