KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Get your shopping bags ready for Saturday.
There is a community garage sale being held in Killeen to help the homeless.

The owner of Gift City in downtown is hosting the event.

Part of East Avenue D will be closed off for residents, vendors, and non-profits to set up shop.

No registration is required, but sellers are being asked to donate a portion of their proceeds to help reopen the Friends in Crisis Homeless Shelter which closed in May.

"We all should lend a hand," says Gift City shop owner Faye Thomas.

"We are our brother's keeper. I don't care who it is, we're all one step away from being homeless, and we should remember that and try to help out," she adds.

The sale will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Gift City will also be accepting donations of canned goods and hygiene items to give to the homeless.

Vendors are also encouraged to bring shade to help stay cool in warm temperatures.
