COPPERAS COVE, Texas (KWTX) The 15th annual Jackrabbit Run Saturday kicks off Rabbit Fest events in Copperas Cove,
The 5K and 10K races begin at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Organizers say nearly 200 participants are already signed up, but they expect another 50 to 80 to register the morning of the event.
Those who pre-registered were picking up race bibs and T-shirts Friday at the Chamber of Commerce.
The race will start at Ogletree Gap Park and continue through the scenic hill country of that residential area.
Organizers say it is a challenging course.
"The challenging part is, they have to, at the beginning of the course, get up a very steep hill. So even your seasoned runners have quite a feat with it. And then ending the race, which I'm sure those who were tired appreciate a little bit, but they come down an even steeper hill" Chamber President Alicia Menard says.
Those interested in participating can still register beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday.
Cove’s Rabbit Fest starts next Thursday and the Gordon Collier Band will be headlining next Friday's performers.
