COPPERAS COVE, Texas (KWTX) The Copperas Cove Police Department started a door decorating contest to help honor healthcare workers fighting COVID-19.

Residents are encouraged to decorate their doors to honor doctors and nurses fighting the pandemic.

The winners will receive some surprise awards for their creativity and generosity.

Contestant Hayley Sawyer says that while the contest is fun, she's happy to honor healthcare workers on the front lines against the Coronavirus.

"They're doing so much for our community," she said.

"We want to show them that they're really life saving legends. It took me and my family two days to decorate our door and it was worth every minute of it."

Anyone interested in participating in the contest can visit the Copperas Cove Police Department Facebook page.

Contestants have until May 16th to submit photos of their door.

The winners will be announced May 17th.
