Two killed in wrong-way crash on local interstate

BELTON, Texas All lanes on Interstate 14 in Belton re-opened Wednesday morning hours after a deadly crash.

Two people were killed after a head on collision on I-14 in Belton.

The accident forced Belton police shut down the Westbound lanes of I-14 between Belton and Nolanville near the Nolanville Hill for several hours.

The initial call came into dispatch around 2:30 a.m.

Callers indicated a car was on fire on the side of the road near FM 534 and Interstate 14.

Police say the crash was caused by a wrong way driver headed eastbound on the westbound lanes of the interstate.

One driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another driver had to be rescued but later died after being rushed to the hospital.

Crews from Nolanville and Belton and the Bell County Sheriff's department were on the scene trying to put out the fire and manage traffic.
