Fort Hood: Soldier found dead in barracks room in South Korea

FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) Fort Hood Staff Sgt. Nicholas M. Scalzo of Selma, Ore., has been found dead in his barracks room at Camp Hovey in South Korea, the Army said.

He was an artilleryman who was assigned to 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at the time of his death.

The 3/1 Cav is the current rotational brigade combat team now training in Korea as part of the 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division.

He was found dead on Monday.

"Command Sgt. Maj. Ryan McLane and I would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Staff Sgt. Nicholas Scalzo," said Col. Kevin Capra, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.

"Nicholas was an integral member of the Steel Dragon and Greywolf teams. We are all deeply saddened by the loss."
