Fort Hood: Soldiers preparing to deploy to Afghanistan, Europe

FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) Two units stationed at Fort Hood will soon deploy to overseas.

The Army says the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, will deploy to Europe as part of its winter 2019 rotation.

“The Blackjack Brigade is well-led, expertly maintained and incredibly lethal,” Maj. Gen. Paul Calvert, commander of the 1st Calvary Division said. “While in Europe, the trooper of this brigade will continue to increase their readiness while supporting the United States’ effort to deter aggression.”

Meanwhile, the 3rd Security Forces Assistance Brigade will head to Afghanistan.

They brigade will replace the 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigade and the country continues to fight in Operation Freedom Sentinel.

“We are prepared to advice, support, liaise and assess our partnered foreign security forces as they work to bring peace and stability to their country,” Brig. Gen. Charles J. Masaracchia, 3rd SFAB commander said.

Dates for the deployment were not announced.
