COPPERAS COVE, Texas (KWTX) A 9-year-old Missouri girl who’s visiting Central Texas this summer decided to do something about the trash she saw while taking a bike ride with her soldier dad near his home in Copperas Cove.

Jocelynn Bell, 9, was riding on Friday with her dad, Jonathan, a soldier in the Hood Mobilization Brigade when she noticed a lot of trash on the side of Lutheran Church Road.

Bell said he forgot about the trash after the two got home but apparently his daughter didn’t.

When she woke up Sunday morning, it was the first thing on her mind.

“Apparently her mind was on it all weekend,” he said.

“First thing she said Sunday morning was ‘we should go pick that trash up.’”

Bell and his daughter hopped in his truck with trash bags in hand, parked at the top of the hill and began to walk.

“She made it into a game,” he said.

“We both had a trash bag and she wanted to see who could fill it up first.”

It didn’t take long for both to reach their goal.

Bell said there was so much trash not only in the ditches on both sides of the road, but also hidden in the tall grass.

The pair only made it about a hundred yards before both bags were full.

“She didn’t put it as eloquently as ‘why are they littering?” Jonathon said, laughing.

“She said these idiots need to stop.”

Bell said his daughter’s desire to keep the city clean didn’t stop on Sunday.

She’s asked for a weekly father-daughter appointment for the rest of the summer.

“We’re going to go pick up every Sunday we’re available,” Jonathan said.

“She’s asking if we can ride our bikes out next time, but I’m not sure I can carry all the trash on the bike,” he said.
