COPPERAS COVE, Texas (KWTX) In the early hours of Jan. 13, what was a nice early morning walk for Will Ames and Joshua Weir turned into tragedy.

“Next thing I know, my brother’s flying in the air and I almost got taken with him,” Weir said.
Ames was hit by an oncoming car on the intersection of Urbantke Lane and S. Seventh St.
Weir says that Ames flew through the air and hit a nearby pole head on.
The driver fled the scene immediately and policed arrived minutes later.
They found Ames lying on the ground and he was pronounced dead at 7:11 a.m.
Police later located the vehicle and arrested Lance Tyler Anderson. Weir says that the city has had issues with street racers and reckless speeding in residential areas before.
Weir and his family plan to bring this issue to the attention of city council so that the proper changes to Urbantke Lane will be made.
“They need to continue the sidewalks, put more speed bumps, and change the speed limit,” he said.
Weir says he’s hopeful for change but will never forget the loss of his friend.
“It’s one of the worst days of my life,” he said.
A special candlelight will be held in Ames’ honor on January 18th at the scene of the accident.
