Killeen: Firefighters pay up after losing blood drive battle

Killeen firefighters wash KPD cars after losing the Boots vs Badges blood drive challenge.

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Wednesday it was time for Killeen's fire department to pay its dues.

The annual Boots versus Badges Blood Drive is a friendly competition between the department and Killeen police officers.

For the 2019 competition, officers got the most blood donations so firefighters had to roll up their sleeves and wash KPD patrol cars.

"We've gotten a little used to this. It's our second year in a row winning," laughs Killeen police chief Charles Kimble.

"But our brothers at the fire department are very good sports, so we're glad to have them on the team, and at the end of the day it's all about saving lives."

Killeen police got 39 donations to the fire department's 18.
