KEMPNER, Texas (KWTX) Kempner City Hall remained closed Tuesday after a car crashed through a back wall Sunday and ended up in the council chamber, but business continues as normal.

Tuesday’s Kempner City Council meeting was canceled because of the accident, but has been rescheduled for Thursday in the Kempner Volunteer Fire Department Training Room.

The council’s workshop session starts at 6 p.m. Thursday and the work session begins at 7 p.m.

Friday’s city court session has also been canceled and will rescheduled, the city said.

“Defendants will be notified,” the city said.

Kempner Mayor Dr. Keith Harvey asked for prayers in a Facebook post.

“I, along with the city staff, have been working diligently to rectify the current issue the city is facing. We have contacted all parties needed to ensure we are doing due diligence in all areas,” he said in the post.

“City Hall will be restored to its original state and the city will move forward conducting city business while the restoration is being conducted.”
