Killeen: Wreath for Veterans receives $5K donation, needs volunteers

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) An organization that lays wreaths for veterans laid to rest a central Texas cemetery got a much-needed donation Thursday.

H-E-B presented a check for $5,000 to the Wreath for Veterans organization.

The money will go into buying materials needed to decorate the wreaths.

Organizer, Jean Shine, said more than 8,000 wreaths will be placed Nov. 24 at the Central Texas Veterans cemetery in Killeen.

Shine said the donation is greatly needed.

“That will go a long way in helping us purchase wreaths because we want to make sure every grave site and the columbarium’s has wreaths” Shine said.

Leslie Sweet, director for H-E-B public affairs, says they are happy to help central Texas organization.

“We’re supporting veteran organizations, military organizations that support our great Texas families that have served their hand to serve the nation” Sweet said

Shine said volunteers are needed to help prepare the wreaths and place them at the cemetery.

Wreath preparations take place November 17th at the Killeen Special Events center on W.S Young Drive at 10 a.m.

Volunteers must be at the cemetery before 8 a.m. Nov. 24 to help place the wreaths.
