Students at Liberty Hill Middle School in Killeen gathered Friday afternoon to hold a ceremony remembering classmate Annabelle Faye Bergman, who died of type 1 diabetes last year.

Tears were shed as the band played music honoring their lost friend.

Seventh grade teacher Rebecca Reynolds chose a Red Oak for the ceremony.

She says its strength mirrors Anabelle’s.

"She had incredible strength. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a pretty early age, and she dealt with that every day of her life, and we teach our children to be strong at this school,” Reynolds said.

Annabelle’s organs were donated, helping to save the lives of two adults and a teenage boy.
