KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) A Killeen law firm presented two checks Wednesday to show its appreciation for law enforcement on National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

The Carlson Law Firm presented $1,500 checks to both the 100 Club of Central Texas and the Killeen Police Law Enforcement Assistance Fund or LEAF.

Speakers shared the importance of supporting the organizations which help officers and their families in times of need.

“They’re the first person our clients normally talk to, whether it be a car wreck or an assault,” said law firm managing partner Craig Carlson.

“The first person they tell their story to are law enforcement officers, so we rely on their records and their testimony in our cases and we just want to say thank you for all they do."

Harker Heights police officer Clyde Hicks spoke about the memory loss he suffered after his motorcycle crashed last summer.

He thanked the 100 Club for helping his family through that tough time.
