Killeen: Police Department’s first retiree dies at 101

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) William Victor Mangerich, the first officer to retire from the Killeen Police Department has died at the age of 101.

Mangerich, a World War II veteran, joined the department in 1949 and retired as a captain in 1979.

“He was well respected by all those he served with and those he served,” police said in a press release Monday.

Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home at 1615 South Fort Hood Rd.

A service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Trimmier at 6405 Chaparral Rd. in Killeen.

Mangerich will be buried with police honors at Live Oak Cemetery in Youngsport.
