KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Killeen police Thursday demonstrated technology designed to keep officers a step ahead of speeders including state-of-the-art radar guns that can track the speed of vehicles from miles away.

Traffic Officer Bobby Castillo says that the department is confident that once implemented, the speed enforcement detail will make streets and highways safer for residents and officers.

“The biggest excuse is I’m running late for something. Whether it’s work, a doctor’s appointment, whatever; take the extra five or 10 minutes you need to wake up a little bit earlier, and get there safely.

“People don’t realize the speed limit on Interstate 14 is 60. Even just going 70 miles per hour, just 10 miles over, that’s 15 feet that you lose to react properly and take evasive action.”
